Technology has become a critical tool to improve our collective response to emerging crises. Although COVID-19 is better, it is not over. We will likely face additional societal emergencies in the coming decades.
Emerging technologies can impact society across all industries. Education, healthcare, and manufacturing are undergoing digital transformation every day. The obstacles are tried and true. Trust is a very big one, since a certain percentage of any group will be skeptical of new technology, no matter how well purveyors of said technology can teach users to become proficient.
Most organizations are still learning how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) make decisions, and as a result, they are playing catch-up in understanding machine learning and AI. Explainable AI is used to describe an AI model, its expected impact, and its potential biases. Explainability becomes critical when the results can have an impact on data security or safety.
