Initially, deepfake technology gained attention for its potential in creating realistic but non-consensual pornographic content featuring celebrities or individuals without their consent, leading to privacy and ethical concerns. However, deepfake applications have since expanded to various other domains, including entertainment, political propaganda and misinformation campaigns.

The proliferation of deepfake content raises complex ethical and legal questions regarding consent, authenticity and intellectual property rights. Existing laws and regulations may be insufficient to address the challenges posed by deepfake technology, necessitating the development of new frameworks and guidelines to govern its use responsibly.

By remaining vigilant, exercising caution and adopting proactive measures, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with deepfake technology and safeguard themselves against potential deception, manipulation and privacy violations.
