January 10, 2011 – Words of encouragement mixed with some motivational challenge for Special Libraries Association (SLA) members came from James King, the 2010 president of the Washington, DC chapter and long-time convener of the Information Futurists Caucus.

His take on the mixed blessings of technology can be found on the SLA site, Future Ready 365, in the post, ‘Technology: The Double-Edged Sword.” Praising the accolades of tools that allow them to connect with and support 7,000 members throughout the year, King charges that we must strategically move the association and its members into the digital future. At the same time, he points out that tools are useless without the amazing librarians and staff that provide a competent human face to our increasingly digital services. Hear, hear.
