The Multilingual Universal Decimal Classification Summary project, containing an abridged schedule of over 2000 classes with notes and examples, continues to progress with 40 languages online, some completely translated and others in various stages of translation.

The project is part of the Universal Decimal Classification Consortium. They expect top classes in Irish, Punjabi and Vietnamese shortly and are working to contact colleagues in other countries as well. There are over 100 volunteers, librarians, library school lecturers and researchers currently working on the translations in their national language. Database statistics showing the translation progress can be viewed here. In addition, the average access to the website in March was over 22,000 hits per day.

It is nice to see the results of so many people’s hard work towards standardization and access.
