Looking for a new job? Do you spend hours a day on Facebook? Can you browse Twitter like lightning spotting new trends before others? The Pentagon might be looking for you.

This interesting piece of information was found on The Atlantic in their article, “The Pentagon Enters the Social Web With a Call for Memetrackers.” The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Department of Defense geeks, are calling for research applications of social media to strategic communication. The general goal of the Social Media in Strategic Communication (SMISC) program is to develop a new science of social networks built on an emerging technology base.

DARPA has a budget of $42 million for “innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems.” Don’t get too excited, that isn’t the position salary.
