Many healthcare professionals are worried that reimbursements will decline drastically after the ICD-10 implementation in 2013. Some are even comparing it to the mortage crisis.

We found this interesting information on Government Health IT in their article, “How to stop ICD-10 from becoming a crisis.” I don’t personally feel this is a good comparison or related in anyway. Granted that without proper planning and employee training, reimbursements can be affected with this new coding system. It is five times the amount of codes, so it will be much more extensive and detailed.

One way to avoid the chaos is to partner with someone who has experience to deliver tag integrity. Access Innovations is the developer of the M.A.I. machine assisted indexing system and specialists in complex coding, tagging, and indexing. Access Innovations provides training to a client’s staff and then offers quality assurance and validation services that can:

  • Minimize the risk of a coding error
  • Identify inappropriate or inadvertently applied tags
  • Display a “map” of coding distributions to allow management to get a bird’s-eye view of the coding assignment flow.
