The FutureGov 2011 award was given to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) for innovation and modernization. The AIHW’s METeOR Metadata Online Registry took the Information Management category, recognizing “excellence in the efficient capture, storage and distribution of citizen information”.

We found this interesting information on PS News in their article, “Health Institute award a tonic.” METeOR was a web-based system for managing, developing and storing data definitions and standards, i.e. metadata. Since metadata is data about data, anyone using METeOR can find, view and download data standards. If what you want doesn’t exist, use METeOR’s metadata creation tools to create a proposed standard, seek expert feedback, and even get the standard endorsed.
