Tagged has announced an acquisition of Topicmarks. Tagged is the social discovery service and Topicmarks uses semantic engine to summarize content. The combination of these two should be interesting.

We found this interesting information on Tech Crunch in their article, “Tagged buys Topicmarks to help discover people easier.” Topicmarks is used in over 160 countries and with this new partnership, it is expected to help Tagged match people to people and people to interests. This is the third purchase Tagged has made recently. Previously, they acquired WeGame and an instant messaging client, Digsby.

Finding information or people works best when a proper taxonomy is in place. Proper indexing against a strong standards-based taxonomy increases the findability of data.
