Networked Knowledge Organization Systems/Services (NKOS) recently reported that ISO 25964-1, the new international standard for thesauri and interoperability, has recently been published and supersedes the well-worn ISO 2788 and ISO 5964. We learned of this in the press release titled “New international thesaurus standard published,” found on the NKOS site.

The full title is Information and documentation -- Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies -- Part 1: Thesauri for information retrieval. As well as covering monolingual and multilingual thesauri, it addresses 21st-century needs for data sharing and is another step in support of the Semantic Web.

Of course we are all about standards. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
