The American Medical Association is appealing to Speaker of the House John Boehner to halt the ICD-10 coding classification transition. Many are concerned that this may be a political maneuver and question whether the matter should be dragged into the boxing ring of the government. With a compliance deadline of October 2013, it seems a little late to stop that particular train.

Modern Healthcare brought this interesting information to our attention in their article, “IT and politics shouldn’t mix.” The new ICD-10 coding classification system will have five times the number of codes to use for billing reimbursement. This is a huge project.

Access Innovations’ M.A.I. machine-assisted indexing system and specialists in complex coding, tagging, and indexing can minimize the risk of coding errors with proper training and quality assurance. Many widely used tagging systems lack a user-friendly interface and do not implement a rigorous ANSI compliant coding subsystem. Access Innovations’ solutions are ANSI compliant and implement state-of-the-art technology to speed tagging and reduce errors.
