Oracle has announced it has updated the MySQL Cluster software. The result should make it more attractive to large Web service providers. Two features in particular will help with this. The software now offers a Memcached application programming interface that allows applications to access data directly. MySQL Cluster 7.2 also implements a faster way of executing complex queries.

PCWorld brought this news to our attention in their article, “Oracle Preps MySQL Cluster for Web Use.” These features provide the ability to rival the fast key value operations of NoSQL, while still offering the ability to do complex SQL queries.

A well-built taxonomy can provide the foundation for faceted navigation by representing topic categories supplemented with facets and values. Data Harmony’s Thesaurus Master is an example of a taxonomy/thesaurus management software that supports creation of faceted taxonomies.
