With the many decisions healthcare providers are being asked to make in preparation for the ICD-10 coding classification transition, it seems it would be beneficial to ask software vendors some very applicable and important questions.

Becker’s Hospital Review brought this topic to our attention in their article, “13Questions Hospitals Should Ask About ICD-10 and Medical Necessity.” The article outlines the full thirteen recommended questions, but I’d like to point out one. What preparations has the vendor made for the ICD-10 transition? This is key to know if they are prepared to help you through the transition.

The new system has five times the number of codes and that makes thorough medical coding even more important. It requires specialized expertise and systems tailored to the regulatory requirements in which health care providers, hospitals, and doctors deliver their services.
