NASA used cloud services to capture and store images and metadata collected by the Mars Exploration Rover. Using the clouds to capture data from space doesn’t seem that far of a reach, pun totally intended. This vote of confidence by NASA does give credibility to the security and reliability of cloud computing.

This interesting information was found on Center Beam in their article, “NASA used the cloud for Mars trip.” The cloud service NASA’s JPL is using said that the contents from the mission were scaled to meet the global demand for viewing. This is just one example of how the public cloud can be helpful for companies or agencies of all sizes.
