The School of Library and Information Science at San José State University (SJSU) is partnering with RedLink, a Silicon Valley startup, to develop a new taxonomy for academic publishers. This interesting news came from EMAG in their post, “SJSU Information School Lends Expertise to Silicon Valley Startup on Innovative Taxonomy Project.”
The project team will create a hierarchical taxonomy of academic disciplines. The new classification system will be incorporated into the RedLink project that provides business intelligence to the academic publishing industry.
This is an exciting project. How the content is classified impacts the findability of the data. Professionals should look for an experienced builder of solid standards-based taxonomies to associate content for appropriate automated and machine-assisted indexing. Access Innovations has extensive experience in constructing taxonomies for academic publishers, and can provide solutions that are ANSI compliant.
