John Weathington, President and CEO of Excellent Management Systems, looks fondly at the mystique of artificial intelligence. This interesting information came to us from DATAVERSITY in their article, “Crowdsourcing Artificial Intelligence.”

He elaborated that leaders often take an egocentric view of the world, relying myopically on their internal capabilities for advanced analytics. However, he believes that you should do a 180 and look at it from the customer’s point of view. The wealth of valuable data he refers to as superficial intelligence is obtainable anytime from involved communities.

He uses one of my favorite apps as an example. Waze helps you navigate the streets of your locale. It is more than a GPS, it is real-time navigation that provides directions to your destination while simultaneously analyzing user provided data about accidents, construction, etc. With the help of your local community, Waze uses real-time analytics to determine your best route. Personally, I think it is amazingly accurate. It puts my Garmin out of business for me.
