The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects—devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. New applications are constantly being created and one of the more recent ones came from a team of US researchers that has developed a system to ease vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communications for better traffic management and curb increasing road accidents. DATAVERSITY brought this news to our attention in their article, “Internet of Things Could Improve Traffic Management, Reduce Accidents.”
The team led by Larry Head from University of Arizona used optimization and algorithms with wireless devices and traffic signal controllers to manage the traffic signals in Phoenix. It is like building community and enhancing communication among traffic signals.
