The implementation of Infolinx WEB will provide the university’s records management office with tracking of over 100,000 boxes, as well as other files and media, in their new on-campus storage warehouse. This move in records management provides the staff at Rutgers with a tool commensurate with their knowledge and abilities.

Semantic Web Challenge Winners Announced

The winners of the 2013 Semantic Web Challenge (SWC) were announced at the 12th International Semantic Web Conference held in Sydney, Australia in late October. Determined by a jury of leading experts in computer semantics from both academia and industry, Elsevier sponsored the challenge and prizes.

A Thousand Terms of Light

Last week, my co-workers and I were discussing points of knowledge. The phrase “a thousand terms of knowledge” popped up. It was apparently an off-the-cuff mingling of “a thousand points of light” with “points of knowledge” and with one of the topics of the moment, thesaurus terms. I couldn’t resist following up on the mixture, which has a precedent of sorts in an earlier TaxoDiary blog posting by Marjorie Hlava.

Pinterest Using Metadata to Track Down Sources

If you are a Pinterest fan, then this might excite you more than most. As you then know, often there is a photo of some delectable dish or inventive craft that leads you to nowhere. It was an image only, no recipe, no instructions, no way to duplicate. This can be very frustrating as that is the entire point of Pinterest, and they know it. They are working to track down the source of a given photo by partnering with Getty Images and their substantial metadata collection.

Azavea, a geospatial data analysis software company, has received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Science Foundation to create a web-based historical mapping system that will enable geographic indexing of historical documents. The software is designed to support a wide range of government, commercial, academic and other research projects.
