arXiv Partners with EBSCO

February 9, 2011 – arXiv has joined the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) entourage to make their content more visible. This e-print service, a Cornell University product, offers an archive of scientific papers. Now, metadata from arXiv will be added to the EDS Base Index.

Information Today brought this news to our attention in their article, “arXiv Now Part of EBSCO Discovery Service.” The 650,000 electronic preprints of scientific papers contain valuable metadata for those with interests or research needs in various sciences.

Combing this mix of structured and unstructured data into a location that makes the content findable is a logical move. Building a taxonomy or thesaurus with which to guide the indexing and ultimately the findability of the content would be a smart move.
