SAE Digital Library Gets Redesign

SAE International has announced a complete redesign of its Digital Library, the comprehensive technical paper and standards solution used by automobile and aerospace engineers.

PRNewsWire brought this to our attention in their post, “SAE International Launches Redesigned Digital Library.” The newly redesigned Digital Library uses a sophisticated MarkLogic® server with an integrated taxonomy of industry-specific terms to give SAE customers and members access to the more than 150,000 papers, standards, and related publications in the Digital Library. In addition, they have the ability to quickly search, find, and share the information they need. The new Digital Library was designed to help researchers in both industry and academia and was done with direct input from their customers.

    I would be interested in the method they used to gain direct input from customers through the digital library development process. It is essential that the end product serves the end user, but it undeniably adds another challenge to the total process of taxonomy construction.
