Copies of articles can now be accessed quickly and cheaply using the IEEE Computer Society’s Instant Conference Download (ICD) service. ICD provides contributing authors with an alternative to buying print copies of the entire proceedings, which can take up to six weeks to order and receive.

We found this interesting information on SF Gate in their article, “Conference Publishing Services Introduces New Proceedings Purchase Option.” By eliminating weeks of waiting for hard-copy reprints with e-copies that can be secured 24/7, the goal of instant gratification has been met.

This sounds great. Findability is key to any document management system and making it fast, easy and cheap is the trifecta of access. However, findability only works when a proper taxonomy is in place. Proper indexing against a strong standards-based taxonomy increases the findability of data. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
