The Applied Analytics Club at the University of Washington (AACUW) was formed this past fall. It was created to provide an interdisciplinary space for students to explore data. It has grown to include over 500 people on its mailing list, from departments all over campus. The Daily brought us this interesting information in their article, “How the applied analytics club aims to make data science accessible to everyone.”
Taking advantage of the interest, AACUW took their mission of making data analytics accessible to everyone a step further when they hosted a case competition in conjunction with Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The response was good. Over 60 students applied to be in the case competition, and 30 of them were accepted to form six teams.
Applied analytics is a way of bringing together big data to produce insights that enhance business. Data is everywhere, but it doesn’t mean much unless you know how to draw out the right patterns or predictions.
Because of this collaboration, AACUW is in a position to reach more departments and students with their mission of collaboration with others.
